74% of people vote to 'open back up the country right now', a recent poll finds

On Saturday last (20th Feb 2021), a Facebook poll was published on the Martin Eastwood Facebook page. The audience were asked one simple question - Yes or No ''Do you think we should open back up the country right now ?''

The post quickly went viral and received more than 2,000 comments in less than 24 hours. Of the 2,000+ commenters, 1,454 people gave a yes or no answer. To the surprise ( I suspect ) of many, a WHOPPING 74% of people voted YES to 'open back up the country right now'.

Things got extremely heated in the comments section, with many people debating their views passionately. One commenter who voted NO cited cases being too high to open back up.

While another person who said they ''survived covid'' voted YES to reopen as she feels ''the mental health of the country is more important right now''.

The creator of the poll Martin Eastwood explained his reasoning for asking the question ''I was scrolling through Instagram the other night and noticed another protest had been scheduled to lift the restrictions. After observing what I believe to be a huge shift in the public opinion since the last protest, I was genuinely interested in what the public opinion is right now, in terms of reopening the country''.

He added ''I did not and do not intend to give my own opinion on the matter as I do not want to sway my audience one way or the other, However, I do think that the public has a right to know what the public opinion actually is, and I think that this result will shock a lot of people!''.
